Our final destination for the year was Skudeneshavn on Karmøy. With this, our voyage for the year has come to an end, and we want to extend a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who came to see the performance. We also want to thank the fantastic crew aboard Hestmanden, everyone from the Vest-Agder Museum who joined the journey, and the seamen’s associations and other local supporters who helped generate positive attention around our visit.

The next stop on this year’s voyage was Sandnes. Regular performances filled up quickly, leading us to add an extra show on Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM. This additional show also nearly sold out, and we are grateful to everyone who came aboard to watch!
Go west – to Stavanger

«The Lucky Ship – a war sailor story» has returned to S/S Hestmanden. This year, the journey heads west, with the ship visiting Stavanger, Sandnes, and Skudeneshavn, bringing the performance along. In this year’s voyage, the role of Oskar is played by Ronnie Mega Herdlevær. He premiered in Stavanger on June 27 and has embraced the role with distinction.

The last port of the voyage: Mandal and the Shellfish Festival

After an extra day in Sandefjord due to the storm “Hans”, and just over a day back on the sea, Hestmanden finally arrived at Mandal and Ballastbrygga on Thursday. Just in time for the Shellfish Festival. And with that, this year’s sailing and tour was over. We sign off, and at the same time would like to extend a big thank you to the wonderful crew (our new family) on board the S/S Hestmanden. We are deeply grateful!

We move a few nautical miles back to get to the next port on our route. Sandefjord offers a lovely location between the ferry port and the whaling boat “Southern Actor”. Sandefjord teems with life while we are there, thanks in large part to the music festival Fjordfesten.

The big city life is over, and Hestmanden has found the sea route to the southern idyll of Risør. The Risør Wooden Boat Festival this year celebrates a full 40 years. In addition, Risør’s 300th anniversary is marked, and the town abounds with folk life and beautiful sea vessels.

S/S Hestmanden finally found the sea route to the capital, and is now moored at Christian Radichs place, just below Akershus Fortress. We will be here in Oslo for almost two whole weeks, and the show will be performed a total of nine times during this period: 19-23. and 27-30 July.

The journey to Moss was the best of the tour so far! We boarded Hestmanden in Horten, and got to join the crossing to Moss. Also in Moss, we got to meet the audience for three days, and at the last performance had a great visit from actor Helge Jordal and writer Tania Michelet. Norwegian premiere and a new international collaboration

In September, we have the great pleasure of presenting a Norwegian premiere: DOG/ACTOR. The show consists of two short, explosive, and comedic plays written by Steven Berkoff. The production is produced by the English theatre company Threedumb Theatre, led by Stephen Smith, and had its world premiere at Pump House Theatre in Watford in 2018. The hope is that this is just the beginning of a long and fruitful international collaboration with several exciting projects, both in Norway and in England.

FINALLY, KISSED will get to meet the youth of Norway! This week, the performance is back in Kristiansand to meet over 400 students from 9th grade, through The Cultural Schoolbag. We’re very much looking forward to it, and hope for many nice meetings and moments with the students in the south!
A journey back in time…

Next week we’ll be back on board S/S Hestmanden, and this time we’ll take secondary school student along with us on a journey back in time. 450 students from the 9th grade will get to experience THE LUCKY SHIP, our depiction of life on board, and the true story of Hestmanden in its most dramatic period from the Second World War.

Yesterday, Friday 09 September, we were finally able to show the public our war sailor story “The lucky ship”. The premiere went beyond all expectations, and with good reactions and feedback from the audience, we are now looking forward to a further five performances.

After a long and thorough pre-production, we’ve finally started rehearsals for “THE LUCKY SHIP”. We’re working at Slåtta Scene, on director Åsmund-Brede Eike’s farm in Lunde in Telemark. During the weeks at Slåtta Scene, we will set the stage-direction so everything is ready for technical rehearsals and adaptation to the room when we finally go aboard the ship S/S Hestmanden, just a few days before the premiere.

This autumn, Kanon Produksjon is ready with yet another play for Kristiansand and surrounding areas! The company’s ninth production, “The Lucky Ship” is written by Jon Erik Myre and André Lassemo, and deals with two war sailors during World War II. The play has been under development for the past two years, in collaboration with the Norwegian War Sailor Museum at the Vest-Agder Museum. The script-work has been supported by Agder County Municipality, Fritt Ord, Bjørneboet at Cultiva and Scenekunst Sør.

In the autumn of 2022 and the spring of 2023, KISSED will be on a tour in The Cultural Schoolbag (TCS) in both Kristiansand municipality, Troms and Finnmark county and on Svalbard. The performance has been included in Scenekunstbruket – The Norwegian Network for Performing Arts repertoire, and we hope it will continue to reach a large audience in its most legitimate target group.

Finally KISSED will have its live premiere! And finally Kanon Produksjon is coming to Oslo! On Saturday September 11th, KISSED will be played at Sentralen in Oslo, as part of Assitejs TeaterlørdagUNG. The performance will be played at 12:00 and at 14:00. Just a couple of weeks later, we set course for Teateret in Kristiansand. The performances here will be played on September 24th and 25th at 18:30.
Vilhelm Krag – 150 years

20.-22. of August Jon Erik plays, together with Ina Maria Brekke, the performance SCREAMS OF A BIRD… in Posebyhaven in Kristiansand. This year it’s 150 years since Vilhelm Krag was born in Kristiansand. Krag is known as “The southern poet”and was also the one who christened the region, which was previously part of Western Norway. His poetry is also the starting point for what became the first Southern folk songs. Based on Krag’s texts, a new theatre performance has been created with accompanying new songs.

The rehearsals are currently underway for the show VORBEREITET, which will be performed at Kilden Theatre and Concert house during the brand new dance festival SØaR. The festival will take place in Multisalen 13.-14. August, with three different world premieres per night. VORBEREITET will have its premiere as the last performance out, on Friday 13th of August.

In 2021, we have the great pleasure of presenting a world premiere: KISSED by Helene L. Solberg and Nora G. Svalheim.
KISSED is a script that was developed by Helene and Nora as their exam performance on the acting course at Nord University in 2018. The following year, they were awarded a rehearsal room by the Actors’ Center and YOUNG TEXT at Unge Viken Theatre (previously Akershus Theatre), where the script was further developed.
Bjørneboet – a residence stay

We at Kanon Produksjon are delighted to have been awarded a grant and a residence stay at Kristiansand Art Museum, called Bjørneboet, which will take place in Kristiansand in week 50. Here, research and writing will be done on Kanon Produksjon’s first original theatre script, with the working title DET HELDIGE SKIPET, which translates to THE LUCKY SHIP.
