The last port of the voyage: Mandal and the Shellfish Festival
After an extra day in Sandefjord due to the storm “Hans”, and just over a day back on the sea, Hestmanden finally arrived at Mandal and Ballastbrygga on Thursday. Just in time for the Shellfish Festival. Mandal was able to offer glorious sunshine for large parts of the stay, and the museum was well visited when they held the ship open for the audience during the day. We had also experienced a lot of interest in the last ports, and with some extra chairs on board, we could happily open up the show for even more visitors in the final couple of days.
Take a look at our Ship’s Log below for some glimpses of our days in Mandal:
And with that, this year’s sailing and tour was over. We sign off, and at the same time would like to extend a big thank you to the wonderful crew (our new family) on board the S/S Hestmanden, to Stian, Ragnhild and Hallvard from the Vest-Agder museum, and to all of you who have come, seen the show, and who have shared your stories and experiences with us! We are deeply grateful!
Finally, we would like to thank the entire team who have contributed to this production becoming exactly the way it was. Our wonderful director and dramaturg Åsmund-Brede Eike, our always so steady sound designer Kristian Bronebakk, our creative and solution-oriented costume designer Rebecca Dahle, our brilliant technicians in Kristiansand and Oslo, Anders Hardeland and Enrique Lietor, and last but not least – our rock and most experienced companion, Victor Phillipson, who has both done lighting design, ran the show on tour, and otherwise contributed in many ways since long before we set our first sea legs on board Hestmanden. A big thank you also to all of you who have contributed to the production of costumes, props, posters and other marketing, as script consultants, and to (the one and only) Lasse Lindtner, musicians and technicians in connection to the recording of the music and the narration. Thanks, and thanks again!
